Self-Defense Tips: Pressure Points - Painful Striking Points

Have you ever hit your shin on a bed post or any other solid object? If you have, you know how painful it is. If you haven't, you need not go out and do it-just take my word for it. It hurts and not just for the moment but it last for quite a while.

That same idea is behind painful striking points for self-defense. We always teach people to carry a self-defense product with them such as pepper spray or a stun gun. They will probably get you out of almost all confrontations without any physical contact.

But just in case they fail, it is good to know some self-defense techniques. They are almost 100% guaranteed to work on anyone, anywhere, anytime, regardless of their training. Some of these techniques were reinforced at a class we attended recently that taught how to use a cane as a self-defense weapon.

If you do get into a confrontation with anyone, the head and neck area may be the most vulnerable and easiest to get to.

If you strike the throat with your hand or with the end of your cane, it causes extreme pain and even vomiting.

If you strike the nose area or under the nose, great pain ensues and watery eyes that blinds the assailants' vision enabling you to escape.

If you are carrying a cane and an assailant grabs you from behind around the throat, it may seem like an almost impossible situation to get out of. Grab your cane in the middle with the bottom of the cane facing backwards and thrust it into the assailants' midsection. He will not be expecting this and will just double over with pain.

Another technique to use if an assailant has you by the throat from behind is to stomp with all your might on his instep. I guarantee you he will let you go.

And of course a favorite technique of the Three Stooges was the eye gouge. A jab in the eye will cause watering, blurred sight and possibly blindness-even if it's just temporary.

Those are some self-defense tips based on using some pressure points located on the body that will cause extreme pain to an assailant.

We still recommend that you use a self-defense product such as a pepper spray or stun gun first. But in a pinch these self-defense tips may end up saving your life.
